Michael D. Jones, AIA, President of Primus Design Services, and Erik Gunderson, Executive Vice President of Primus Builders, recently were invited to give a presentation at the IACSC (International Association for Cold Storage Construction) Conference in Las Vegas, NV. Jones and Gunderson presented on the topic of technical considerations for high-rise cold storage facilities.
The presentation included a discussion from Jones regarding the design challenges of high-rise facilities. Jones cited topics such as planning, code considerations, site-specific challenges, and loading concerns. The team showed a short video of Primus' recent high-rise project in Indianapolis before Gunderson gave his section of the presentation.
Gunderson discussed the construction aspects of high-rise projects once the design stage is complete. Among the topics of his dialogue were pad development and underfloor systems, slab placement, building support system concerns, and site management matters such as site conveyance choices and safety issues.
The 2011 IACSC Conference was the highest attended conference in the event's history. Primus is a proud partner of IACSC and its parent association, the IARW (International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses).
