Sysco – Columbia

Sysco is the world’s largest food distributor and purveyor of food services to the hospitality, healthcare and educational industries. In an effort to demonstrate their offerings to existing and future clients, the firm expanded its Columbia, South Carolina facility to offer menu planning, food tasting and other hands-on services. The expansion/renovation included:

  • Business review area featuring test kitchens with state-of-the-art equipment (Electrolux, Ecolab, American Range, Arctic) on a new mezzanine
  • Freezer space with miniload, cooler space modifications (ice cream -20°F inside existing; main freezer 0°F, dock 38°F)
  • Refrigerated dock space
  • Upgrades to the freight elevator and existing stairs
  • Expanded gravel truck lot
  • Site improvements

Construction occurred while the existing facility remained fully operational to ensure no delays in production.

The Primus team encountered several challenges that could potentially delay the schedule. An improperly located existing storm drain and unsuitable soils are just two examples. The team strategized effective solutions, worked nights and weekends to implement them, and completed the project on time.
