New Orleans Cold Storage
LAPORTE, TX

New Orleans Cold Storage, a major beef and poultry exporter associated with the handling and storage of refrigerated cargo, was established in 1886 in New Orleans, LA. NOCS owns and operates three cold storage warehouses in New Orleans, and one each in the ports of Charleston, South Carolina, and Houston, Texas.

Due to its growth in the port areas, NOCS decided to expand its Houston facility located in LaPorte, Texas. Primus Builders was selected to design and construct this 67,113 SF freezer expansion.

The expansion includes a -10° freezer, 8 blast cells, +35° cooler dock, deslatting, office, machine room, electrical rooms, break rooms and a locker room. It also involves converting the existing Freon refrigeration system to ammonia. The state-of-the-art central ammonia refrigeration system utilizes a two-stage design with screw compressors, thermosyphon oil cooling, evaporative condensing, liquid recirculation, micro-processor control, leak detection and hot gas defrost.
