Chicken of the Sea, an international seafood producer, recently implemented plans to move their tuna canning operation to the United States. The company purchased a 200,000 SF facility in Lyons, Georgia, and hired Primus Builders to tailor the facility to their specifications with the addition of a freezer and cold dock. Primus was awarded the project based on its in-house Design/Build capabilities and engineering efforts, and worked closely with the Georgia Ports Authority.
This fast-track project entails a building renovation and addition of a 0° freezer with a 40° cold dock expansion. The addition increases the size of the facility by 14,000 SF. Project features include insulated metal panels, new dock positions with “fully loaded” dock packages and a specially-designed roof system modification to better handle water flow.
The project was master-planned with future expansion in mind. This is the first tuna processing facility in the United States for Chicken of the Sea and one of only two in the nation that process tuna from frozen product into ready-to-eat canned goods.
