United States Cold Storage, ranked #4 among the country's public cold storage providers, made the decision to expand its Hazleton, PA, facility. After a competitive bidding process, US Cold awarded the project to Primus Builders.
The project involves the addition of a freezer, dock and multi-purpose corridor. Features include a state-of-the-art Cascade CO2 refrigeration system, Kalman shrink-compensating floors, a TYCO Quell fire protection system and LED freezer lights. The freezer storage area is comprised of two rooms that are fully convertible from -20°F to +35°F.
Other highlights of the project include continuous pit, vertically-storing dock levelers and oversized dock doors that allow trailer doors to open into the building. This project was designed with provisions for a future rail dock expansion.
Primus is performing the Phase II expansion with a fast-track, five-month construction schedule.
