Wayne Farms
JACK, AL

Wayne Farms is one of the nation’s largest poultry producers, with over 2.1 billion pounds of poultry produced each year. Primus Builders was engaged to complete several projects at Wayne Farms’ Jack, Alabama, facility. Work included construction of a new DSI pump building; construction of a new MCC room; and the 5,850 SF renovation and expansion of an existing room to a new marination and sizing room.

Key components of this job include the relocation of the refrigeration condenser and compressor, along with DSI process equipment that had to be decommissioned and moved from Georgia. Primus worked diligently to coordinate logistics between the Georgia and Alabama plants in order to meet production schedules at both facilities.

Specific features of the project include the processing equipment and the makeup air unit (MAU), which cools the marination room to 45°. Using “box in a box” construction, the Primus team also utilized the existing building as a shell and installed a new slab, custom fabricated stainless steel trench drains, new liner wall panels, a new ceiling and epoxy floor coating.

The biggest challenge of this job was working with the plant to ensure USDA compliance without shutting down plant operations. Primus overcame this obstacle by constructing a temporary structure separating construction from production operations, and work was completed without production interruption.
