Penske Corporation is one of the country’s largest transportation services companies. In addition to business units like retail automotive and truck leasing, the firm also provides transportation logistics like distribution center management, transportation management, lead logistics and supply chain consulting.
Penske had a need to increase its cold storage capacity in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The firm chose to convert a 52,000 SF dry storage warehouse into a public refrigerated warehouse with freezer and cooler components. Primus Builders was selected to provide design-build services.
The project began with demolition of the existing slabs so that sufficient insulation could be installed for the freezer and cooler. The facility offers an 11,000 SF, -10°F freezer and a 5,000 SF, 38°F cooler. This more than doubles the capacity of their previous local facility located just up the road.
The refrigeration system is highly automated. It is controlled by one touch screen and can be viewed and controlled remotely.
Additional features included LED lights and shrink compensating floors.
