Primus Builders is currently providing design-build services for U.S. Cold Storage’s newest freezer warehouse located in Richland Township, Pennsylvania. This 245,000 SF greenfield facility is one of seven projects Primus is currently providing services on or has completed for U.S. Cold Storage. Key features of the facility include:
This project represents Primus’s commitment to improving its design-build approach by integrating state-of-the-art technology. Building Information Modeling (BIM) was incorporated at project kick off and will be utilized through construction to improve coordination and maintain the project schedule. Implementing BIM allows the team to identify potential clashes during design and offer solutions before construction begins. It is also an excellent document management tool that reduces the number of printed drawings and improves the review process.
Site work has proven to be the most challenging component of the project so far. The following challenges and solutions have occurred on the project site.
• Wetlands – A portion of the site was located on protected wetlands. Primus worked closely with the Bucks County Conservation District and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to negotiate a solution. The existing wetlands were relocated to a designated area that supported the relevant ecosystem.
• Shallow Rock & Water Tables – Primus will blast the appropriate locations to ensure the proper drainage infrastructure is in place before construction begins.
• Winter – Winter in Pennsylvania is cold and snowy. Primus is careful to blanket existing work to ensure snow doesn’t slow the schedule.
