Sysco

Florida

Project Details

When Sysco, the world’s largest food distributor and purveyor of food services acquired a former FreshPoint facility in Jacksonville, Florida, it determined that a complete overhaul was required to ensure the facility could perform to Sysco standards. Primus provided design-build services on this 195,000 SF renovation project.

Originally built in the 1960’s, the facility’s interior was gutted to make way for more modern systems

Features of this renovation include:

  • Complete floor removal and replacement in the freezer
  • New 45° freezer; 30° cooler; and 36° cooler
  • Partial roof replacement
  • All new plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems
  • New ammonia refrigeration system
  • 9 mini penthouses
  • Battery charging stations
  • Support areas including a dock office and locker room
  • New executive suite and sales offices

Because of its age, the building had intense structural issues which proved to be the biggest challenge on the project. Primus shored the facility and rehabilitated the entire structure to meet new building codes. The team also replaced the dock.

The building is located in a Free Trade Zone near the Port of Jacksonville. This meant an official from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency inspected the facility to ensure, as a dock-side building, it met stringent Homeland Security requirements.
