stow Group Celebrates the Opening of Its First U.S. Manufacturing Facility in Calhoun, Georgia

Primus recently joined stow Group and industry and community leaders to celebrate the official opening of stow’s first U.S. manufacturing facility in Calhoun, Georgia. The October 15 ribbon cutting marked a major milestone for the Belgium-based company and another significant investment in Georgia’s growing manufacturing and logistics industries.

The 240,000 SF facility is stow’s eighth manufacturing plant worldwide and its first on American soil. The company estimates its investment in the Calhoun operation, excluding the building, at $40–$50 million.

The celebration was especially meaningful for Primus. Movu Robotics, Primus’ automation partner, is the primary brand within stow Group.

Manufacturing Closer to the Customer

A recurring theme throughout the ribbon cutting was the importance of manufacturing closer to U.S. customers.

The Calhoun plant produces punch and roll-formed teardrop racking systems engineered to U.S. codes, including RMI 2023 standards. Products that previously had to cross the Atlantic can now be manufactured here in Georgia.

That shift has tangible benefits for U.S. customers. stow expects lead times for domestically manufactured racking to decrease from approximately 12-15 weeks for imported products to approximately 6-9 weeks. Domestic production also reduces exposure to ocean freight disruptions, tariff volatility and currency fluctuations.

Those advantages are increasingly important as warehouse owners pursue larger, more sophisticated distribution and automated storage facilities where racking, automation and building systems work together.

As Jos De Vuyst, CEO of stow Group, explained, the facility represents a long-term commitment to the North American market. He described the plant as a “statement of intent” and said Calhoun will not be the company’s last U.S. facility.

Advanced Manufacturing Meets Automation

The facility itself reflects the technology transforming the logistics industry. It features fully automated production lines and robotic precision welding and painting technology, creating a high level of consistency in the manufacturing process.

Production began in May 2026. U.S.-manufactured racking is already being supplied to projects across the country, including one for Primus. By the end of 2026, stow expects the facility to have the capacity to process approximately 100 million pounds of steel annually.

That domestic manufacturing capability complements the automated warehouse solutions offered through Movu Robotics. Together, stow and Movu provide solutions ranging from conventional pallet racking to semi-automated shuttle systems and fully automated warehouse solutions.

Investing in Georgia and Its Workforce

The investment is also about people.

The Calhoun operation is expected to support approximately 200 jobs at full capacity, with 120 positions already filled at the time of the opening. Continued recruitment includes positions in production, engineering, quality control and operations.

Georgia’s logistics infrastructure was another important factor. Governor Brian Kemp has previously pointed to the state’s strategic location and infrastructure network as reasons companies such as stow can support Georgia’s logistics industry and reach key markets.

That local investment is part of a much larger international story. Throughout the event, speakers emphasized the relationship between Belgium and the United States and the shared commitment to collaboration, workforce development and manufacturing investment.

As one comment from the event neatly summed it up: “We rack the world. A little bit is now made here in Georgia.”

A Stronger Automation Supply Chain

For Primus, having this capability in Georgia strengthens an already important relationship with Movu Robotics.

As owners invest in increasingly automated warehouses, bringing racking production closer to the U.S. market creates meaningful advantages. Shorter lead times, reduced exposure to international shipping disruptions, domestic production and closer coordination between storage and automation systems can all support more predictable project delivery.

The new Calhoun facility represents the kind of investment driving the next generation of logistics infrastructure: global expertise combined with domestic manufacturing, advanced automation and a skilled local workforce.

Primus congratulates the entire stow Group and Movu Robotics team on this milestone. We are proud to work alongside organizations investing in the people, technology and infrastructure that are shaping the future of logistics and automation.
